January Chai Warmer

Spices provide important anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to keep our immune system strong at this time of year. A favourite way to incorporate them into my diet is through a warming chai tea. On cold wintery days I often use the tea in place of hot water for making my porridge oats extra comforting and uplifting!

Why not try my simple recipe at home.


1 whole cinnamon stick

8 green cardamon pods

1tsp whole black peppercorns

4 cloves

500ml water

2-3cm of sliced fresh ginger

An earl grey or rooibos tea bag

  1. Add all the ingredients apart from the tea bag to a saucepan and bring to the boil over a high heat. Once boiling reduce the heat to a simmer and allow the water to reduce by 1/3.
  2. Then add the tea bag and turn off the heat, allow to steep for 5 minutes.
  3. Add your choice of milk and sweetener at the end.
